Arguments Put Out by Ex-CDS Irabor in Support of the Closure of Banex Plaza

Banex Plaza, a major Abuja commercial center, should be closed until the perpetrators of the attack on military troops at the venue are held accountable, according to General Lucky Irabor (rtd), a former chief of defense staff (CDS).

In a Tuesday interview, Irabor voiced his approval of the Banex Plaza’s shutdown. Nobody has the right, he says, to point fingers at uniformed soldiers, regardless of the reason.

Traders and two soldiers clashed at Banex Plaza in Abuja’s Wuse Area 2 neighborhood on Saturday, according to LEADERSHIP. When military officials arrived and blocked off the square, vendors fled the scene in fear of being apprehended.

Anarchy might ensue if the perpetrators are not apprehended, said General Irabor.

“As for me, I’m in full support of keeping Banex Plaza closed until those responsible for that horrible act are brought to justice,” he declared. For the simple reason that we will be begging for chaos if we don’t.

The media’s role in spreading information about the catastrophe was something that Irabor greatly appreciated. But he did say that before creating the agenda for conversation, it was important to define the context.
