On Monday, Senator Rufai Sani Hanga stated his regretless donation of textiles and clay pots used for burial to his constituents.

At a press conference in Kano on Monday, Hanga—who represents Kano Central in the Senate—defended his action.

Criticisms of his gesture followed, and he was responding to them.

Buying and distributing caskets and other burial supplies to my constituents is something I completely regret. I paid for them out of my own pocket, not with funds from the constituency initiative.

I also grew up seeing my dad do the gesture, so I guess you could say it’s a family custom.

Many individuals recognized me with the gesture before I became a senator; once I took office, several organizations approached me, asking that I help them with cemetery upkeep.

“And I decided to spread the gesture to all the 15 Local Government Areas of my constituency,” the congressman stated.

He informed his constituents that he had been providing them with additional democratic dividends besides the donation and purchase of funeral goods.

As a component of my constituency initiative, we are constructing roads in around ten LGAs and women’s centers in roughly six LCCs.

This follows the distribution of financial incentives to beneficiaries from 15 LGAs, with a focus on women and youth.

We have supported at least 2,000 students to attend Kano State Polytechnic as part of our educational initiatives.

As a way to show our support for the education of 1500 students at Bayero University, Kano (BUK),” Hanga announced.
