According to Darwin Nunez, an attacker for Liverpool, it’s unfortunate that Jurgen Klopp departed the club after the conclusion of the 2023–24 season.
The Uruguayan national team player went on to say that the sudden exit of long-term boss Klopp had caught the club unawares.
In case you forgot, Klopp left his position at Anfield after an incredible nine years in charge.
With the German at the helm since October 2015, Liverpool went from being a mid-table team to a major player in England and Europe.
The Reds won every major prize that could be won during his tenure as manager, with the exception of the UEFA Europa League. The announcement of Klopp’s departure at the end of the season was made earlier this year, with the cited reason being exhaustion.
As reported by El Pais, Nunez reflected on the scenario and expressed his amazement, echoing the attitude inside the team:
The news of Klopp’s departure surprised us all. Everyone was taken aback. His departure is disappointing. It didn’t happen the way I wanted it to—that is, with a major victory before he left.
Furthermore, the players should feel bad about it. I hope everything works out for him.
In Klopp’s last season as manager, Liverpool won the English Football League Cup and finished third in the Premier League.
