Vendors and event planners have criticised the impact of the continuing trials of naira abusers on the event business.

They were upset that the restriction had dampened social events’ glitz and glitter, which had an adverse effect on their business.

Those who misuse naira notes are being cracked down on even harder by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to sesothomp3.

On Friday, April 12, 2024, a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, handed down a six-month prison term without the possibility of a fine to Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, for the mutilation of Naira notes.

Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, was charged a few days later by the anti-graft agency before Justice Kehinde Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on three counts relating to the misuse of the Naira.

Cubana Chief Priest entered a not guilty plea to the charge of naira abuse, in contrast to Bobrisky, who pled guilty.

Bola Ayedun-Solate, convener of Ogun event vendors, commented on the news, saying that while the ban has had an impact on the event planning business, Nigerians are starting to adjust.

Over the weekend, Ayedun-Solate gave a speech in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

Partygoers, performers, and event organizers have come up with creative ways to avoid getting caught and prosecuted, according to her.

The organizer of the gathering praised the EFCC for safeguarding the naira notes and emphasized that Nigerians should not misuse them to flaunt their wealth at social events.

The prohibition on naira spraying at parties has taken the glitz out of gatherings, according to us event planners, but we’re figuring out a way to make it work, and guests are starting to adjust.

“We now have money bags printed where our clients may leave money, so they don’t have to humiliate themselves in front of musicians.

“At one point, in lieu of actual naira notes, the Nigerian association of event planners used a kind of fake currency—like vouchers for party cash.”
